The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is folded up, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 No! I swear by the slinkers, 15 stars which are visible during the night 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 For him among you who pleases to go straight. 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
