Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
