The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 stay away from sins 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
