The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward. 25
