The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
