He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
