The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity 1 so that he could warn them of His stern retribution, give the glad news of the best and everlasting reward to the righteously striving believers, 2 wherein they shall remain forever, 3 And warn those who say: Allah has taken a son. 4 They do not have any knowledge of it – nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. 5 Perhaps you will destroy yourself out of grief because they disbelieve this Book. 6 Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. 7 Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage). 8 Do you not think that the story of the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription was one of Our marvelous miracles? 9 Recall what time the youths betook themselves to the cave, then said: our Lord! vouchsafe unto us mercy from before Thee, and prepare for us in our affair a right course. 10 Then We caused them to fall into a deep sleep for many years inside the cave. 11 Afterwards. We raised them up again, that We might know which of the two parties would better calculate the while they had tarried. 12
