The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all defilement shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
