THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Aye! I am better than this one who is despicable, and well-nigh cannot make himself plain. 52 Why then have bracelets of gold not been cast on him, or angels not come with him conjoined?' 53 In this way he fooled his people and they obeyed him: they were a rebellious people. 54 Then when they provoked Our wrath, We took revenge on them and drowned every one of them. 55 and made them a thing of the past and an example for those who would come after them. 56
