Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7

We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 And We did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and We overtook them with chastisement that they may turn. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 Why then have bracelets of gold not been cast on him, or angels not come with him conjoined?' 53 So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people. 54 But when they roused Our anger We inflicted retributive punishment and drowned them all, 55 And We made them a precedent and example to the later generations. 56
