The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
