Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
