The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: 23 and they said: "Are we to follow one single mortal, one from among ourselves? In that case, behold, we would certainly sink into error and folly! 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 Tell them that the water is to be divided between them, a drink each for them in turn' 28 But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 And early in the morning the decreed punishment came upon them. 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 40
