Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 and raised couches, 13 And cups put in place 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
