Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
