The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 In a few years (less than ten). God's is the imperative first and last. On that day the believers will rejoice 4 In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 5 The promise of God! God fails not His promise, but most men do not know it. 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
