The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
