The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
