Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Say, "It has been revealed to me that a band of the jinn listened [to the Quran] and they said, "We have heard a really wonderful recital, 1 Which guides to the right path; and we have come to believe in it, and will not associate any one with our Lord. 2 And that He-- exalted be the majesty of our Lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son: 3 And [now we know] that the foolish among us have been saying outrageous things about God. 4 and we had thought that men and jinn would never speak against God a lie. 5 And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden. 6 and that “they thought, even as you thought, that Allah would never raise anyone (as a Messenger)”; 7 And we sought to reach the heaven; then we found it filled with a strong guard and darting meteors. 8 'And verily, we used to sit there in stations, to (steal) a hearing, but any who listens now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush. 9 "'And [now we have become aware] that we [created beings] may not know whether evil fortune is intended for [any of] those who live on earth, or whether it is their Sustainer's will to endow them with consciousness of what is right: 10 And of us there are some righteous, and of us are some otherwise; we have been following very diverse paths. 11 We knew that we could never challenge God whether we stayed on earth or fled elsewhere. 12 'And as for us, since we have listened to the Guidance, we have accepted it: and any who believes in his Lord has no fear, either of a short (account) or of any injustice. 13 'Amongst us are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills - they have sought out (the path) of right conduct: 14 ‘And as for the unjust they are the fuel of hell.’” 15 Had they (jinn and mankind) remained steadfast in their religion (Islam), We would certainly have given them abundant water to drink 16 so as to test them by this means: for he who shall turn away from the remembrance of his Sustainer, him will He cause to undergo suffering most grievous. 17 "And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah; 18 And that when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him, they wellnigh crowded him (to death). 19
