The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
