The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
