Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
