The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
