The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
