And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 We bring you the truth, and indeed we are truthful. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 and he told them, "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside-down and showered on them lumps of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
