They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 He journeyed on a way 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: "I shall punish whosoever is wicked. He will then be sent back to his Lord who will inflict on him a terrible punishment. 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 until he reached the limit where the sun rises and he found it rising on a people whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 It was so, for We were fully informed about him. 91 Then followed he (another) way, 92 until, when he reached between the two barriers, he found this side of them a people scarcely able to understand speech. 93 They said, "O Dhu'l-Qarnayn! Gog and Magog are causing corruption in the land, so may we pay you tribute on condition that you set a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said, 'That wherein my Lord has established me is better; so aid me forcefully, and I will set up a rampart between you and between them. 95 Bring me blocks of iron to fill up the passage between the two mountains." He told them to ply their bellows until the iron became hot as fire. Then he told them to pour on it molten brass." 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 He said: 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when my Lord's promise is come, He will make it dust. The promise of my Lord is true' 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 who have turned a blind eye to My reminder and a deaf ear to My warning. 101
