He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you ignore him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
