۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
