The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
