And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant. 40 So the true Scream seized them – We therefore made them like rotten hay; so away with the unjust people! 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us? 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
