The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
