The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 Defeated have been the Byzantines 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not: 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
