We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 So when We averted the calamity from them, they immediately broke the promise! 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 But why have not bracelets of gold been put upon him, or why have there not come with him angels as companions? 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 And when they angered Us, We took vengeance on them and drowned all of them, 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
