The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right. 38
