The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
