The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
