The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
