The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
