The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
