The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
