A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
