The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be condemned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
