Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dipersing winds that disperse. 1 And (the clouds) that bear heavy weight of water; 2 which then smoothly speed along, 3 And those who distribute (blessings) by command, 4 indeed, that which you are promised is true, 5 And verily Judgment and Justice must indeed come to pass. 6 By the heaven with its numerous forms: 7 Lo! ye, forsooth, are of various opinion (concerning the truth). 8 though only those who are averse to the Truth will turn away from (believing in it). 9 Death to those whose opinions are merely baseless conjectures. 10 Who are careless in an abyss! 11 They ask: When is the Day of Judgment? 12 On that Day they shall be tried at the Fire, 13 (And told:) "Taste your punishment. This is what you were trying to hasten." 14 The righteous shall live among gardens and fountains, 15 Taking joy in the things which their Lord has given them. Verily, they were before this Muhsinun (good-doers - see V. 2:112). 16 They used to sleep only a little during the night. 17 and would pray for forgiveness from their innermost hearts; 18 and sharing their possessions with the beggars and the deprived. 19 For those with sure belief there are signs in the earth, 20 And also in your own selves. Behold ye not? 21 And in the heaven is your providence and that which ye are promised; 22 for, by the Sustainer of heaven and earth, this [life after death] is the very truth - as true as that you are endowed with speech! 23
