The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
