The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 thy robes purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
