I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
