The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
