Nay, and by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
