The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 when earth is stretched out 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 shall call for destruction 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
