He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
